Last week of Feb, Spring feels like its right round the corner here. The photos illustrate life here pretty well.....a lot of feeding various groups of cats, a lot of eating out, a lot of very little! One of the sets of cats we feed , our BFG - Bin Feline Gang - are now in an almost picturesque setting (not the actual bins but the surroundings!) as all the yellow spring flowers are out. Its really funny when we get up there, the 2 gingers cats come literally gambolling through the flowers and in my head I can hear the theme music from Little House On the Prairie!! Da da da da, da da da... I wonder if the 2 ginges (to rhyme with hinges) are female, we could call them Laura and Mary. Oh, maybe not, I think Mary went blind, didn't she?

And actually one lives in a TREE!!! An actual tree! That completely threw us to start with - standing in the road, hearing all this mewing coming from above our heads, and we are looking round like a pair of idiots, till we realise its a cat. In a tree. In a nest!
Must try and get a photo of this feline phenomenon.
Its our wedding anniversary on Monday, can't believe that's 13 years! Unlucky for some -ha ha! But my goodness, where have those years gone, it feels like it's gone by in a flash! We've been lucky enough to have a some money gifted from a couple of lovely rellies, and we are dividing the spoils between a couple of nice meals out over the w/e (more places open over the w/e than a Monday and we can think of it more as commemorating the death of our singleton-hoods!) and more plants and planters for the balcony.
The lemon tree we bought really does not like the winds, so we have been carting it round from one balcony to another trying to find a sheltered spot for it. Where ever we put it, it continued to look a bit forlorn...then I discovered we were also transporting a very large grasshopper/cricket/locust type of fellow about with it...accounting for its somewhat munched appearance! Once we had identified him, we removed him to a nearby bunch of bushes, so hopefully the lemon tree will pick up now.
Actually its been a bit of a week for insect life.
You will recall the photos of the fabulous fruit and veg stall we have here? I had bought various things including a lovely head of broccoli. But what I hadn't quite grasped was that its a very different kettle of cabbage to buying from a UK supermarket, in all its washed and hermetically sealed up in a plastic bag wonder ........so there I am making a frutalia, which is a local special omelette type thing, more of a frittata really...which I make using whatever I have to hand...sausage, all manner of veggies, cheese.....and this week my broccoli was going in.
I had chopped up my onions, pepper, the brocoli and had it in neat little heaps on the chopping board. As I was staring out of the window, gazing at the view of Mykonos, feeling all domestic goddess, with not a shred of plastic packaging to be seen anywhere, I thought..'What is that...on my window..?? Oh - it's a tiny caterpillar. Well, no problem. Open window, throw out caterpillar. Then realise we have mosquito nets. Fish caterpillar out of my hair, open window And mosquito nets. Throw caterpillar out again. Goodbye!
Carried on with the domestic godessing....boiling potato chunks, frying off the first batch of broccoli......when I noticed out of the corner of my eye the small heaps of onions and the other broccoli seemed to be well, moving! On closer inspection , and a bit of rootling about, I discovered several more small green caterpillars!!! Eeeek, quick, open window, open nets, throw out wildlife. Say nothing! Look busy! Nothing to see here! Then I looked again at the broccoli frying away in the pan.............oh well.....I don't suppose a VERY small amount of unexpected protein in going to do us much harm.
The first HH will know about this if when he reads about it here...it'll be an interesting test, to see if he does actually read my waffle as he assures me he does.
I'll be sure to keep you all posted!!! Happy week-end everyone.
Island life...green in tooth, claw and caterpillar.
Shed loads of photographs to go with this one!
